Help with changelog.md

Can you write in detail what should be done to make changelog in a separate file 'changelog.md'?
I don't understand these instructions

I wrote in the toml file:

[changelog]
publish = true
path = "./changelog.md"

But I get an error in Action: Unable to find version 9999.0.0 from changelog.md.

I don't know how to do it correctly

@xoofx I'm confused as to how the changelog works as well.

Is the repository expected to have an empty changelog.md to begin with.

I published my repository with a single initial commit and tagged with 1.0,0 and the dotnet-releaser logs were.

As explained in the doc, the changelog.md needs a header with the version, for example:

## 0.8.0
- Update tests to net6.0
- Add support for specialized template (#34)
- Fix parsing qualifier (#37)
- Improve parsing template (#38)
- Fix for typedef in different namespace (#49)

It should work, but I haven't used it for years now, as I'm only relying on automatic per PR/commit changelog.

It looks ok for 1.0.1, 1.0.0 was pushed manually so not generated by dotnet-releaser

@xoofx apologies, it wasnt till I pushed 1.0.1 that I realized it uses releases rather than a manual changelog which is what I wanted anyways.
