delete selection does not work

Describe the bug
Often when I select a text with the mouse and hit delete it doesn't go away. Most often, selecting the same text again solves the problem, but not always. I have not found a pattern in this, except that I by habit often select text from the last character I want to delete and then drag the mouse pointer backwards in the text. It could be that this only happens if the first character selected is the first character on a line.

3. Scroll down to '....'

The background color change caused by selection appears as normal, its just that delete doesn't work.
