Hi
My submission to the SharePoint Hackathon is a vey simple out of the box communication site. Nothing to fancy but that is the best part about it
My girlfriend is currently applying for a new job at out local hospital to become an admiral nurse dealing with people who come into the hospital with dementia.
This is a new role in many hospitals around the country. So one of the challenges the role has is communication with hospital staff due to its vast size and number of employees.
This is where I had the idea of creating a simple but effective communication site that would allow anyone to easily find more information about dementia but more specifically around what and who admiral nurses are in their hospital.
Bridging the gap between IT and nursing we have worked together to produce the site I am showing you today. This demonstrates the power of what SharePoint can bring to an organisation like an hospital. If you can show how quick and simple it is to design something which would benefit hospital staff, the uptake on these types of sites would be massive.
The home page Is the front door to team. Front and centre are the staff who work there. Bright and friendly photos of each team member draw people into the site as soon as it loads.
Having a list of common questions down the right-hand side of the page allows users of the site to find information very quickly. These questions need to be monitored in terms of the number of hits each one gets, to ensure the correct questions are there. This would tie in with search so owners can understand if people are searching for the same answer, that question is added to this right-hand menu.
Underneath this menu are a list of events which the department would be running and would like people to know about.
Being able to access the information on a mobile phone is also a massive plus for staff. They can access the information they need on the go and from any location in the hospital.
Underneath the team members carousel are 3 key “Call Out” images. These will be used communicate to people key areas which the department are focusing on for the coming period of time.
The bottom 3 sections are mainly aimed at staff rather than family members. These web parts will be audience targeted so staff. Meaning only staff will see these. This then removes unnecessary information for family members but means everyone still accesses the same site. The 3 web parts cover specific job related information relating to the hospital, news that is happening at the hospital, birthday celebrations within the team and quick links to the most recently published documentation.
Future ideas would be SharePoint Agents and QR codes to access the site.
Posters for the Admiral nurse would be put up on all the relevant wards and locations. The posters would show QR codes which staff, patients or family members could simply scan and they would be taken straight to the information they need.
SharePoint agents would be used so that anyone who can access the can query data by simply asking a question. The site will eventually contain large volumes of documents about quite complex matters. Having the ability to simply ask questions and get summarised responses back will become invaluable to not only frontline staff but family members as well. An example being help understanding what benefits a dementia suffer could be entitled to based on their diagnosis. Unfortunately, trial versions don’t allow for this.
