Lucide has a great syringe icon along with pill, pill-bottle, and tablets...

An IV icon representing an IV bag or intravenous therapy would really round it out!

healthcare & education

IV icons have broad applications in medicine & healthcare including first aid e.g. hydration, vitamins & supplements, blood donation / receiving blood products, medical treatments such as chemotherapy, signage, education for patients & healthcare professionals alike, infusion clinics, etc.

A specific real-world use-case regarding a current project of mine is a requirement for coordinating visuals that represent different routes of administration for different types of medications used to treat a particular family of diseases. I've had to source from another icon set however I would have loved (and I'm sure many others as well) if Lucide had an answer for this one; this is a go-to icon set for many!

Although we're thinking about IV specifically, a simple "iv bag" visual could also be used to represent other types of "bags" such as feeding bags / feeding tubes (e.g. search GI tube).

business metaphors

Outside of healthcare visuals broadly related to "treatment" or "prescription" can also relate to metaphors in business and other scenarios where they represent a solution path for a problem or some sort of remedy or fix for an issue.

For example I've seen marketers, salespeople, etc. use these sorts of analogies and visuals.

gaming

Representing health, regeneration, pick-ups, etc.

Design ideas

IV / IV bags are a popular icon found in many sets. Search for "iv icon". In order to stay relevant and recognizable I wouldn't rock the boat too much.

What's missing is Lucide's own version that coordinates well alongside icons already in the family:

If a contributor is feeling ambitious I would throw out there the potential for multiple icons to represent full, partial-filled / half-full, empty that I'm sure would be appreciated.

Hey @karsa-mistmere looks great, its a start :) I do love the simplicity of your take vs. other healthcare icon sets in general.

My personal 2 cents is I don't think the "hose" needs to be so long and the icon may visually coordinate better to focus on the bag.

I think the bag is what people mentally associate with IV as its the most distinctive aspect vs. tubes and needles.

Here's one I had used on a past project from a decade ago (unfortunately I only have raster versions handy):

FYI https://healthicons.org/ is a large and growing set of health icons that may be a source of icon inspiration for requests related to sciences and healthcare.

Their IV barely show a tube at all, though they are using the extra real estate to present many variants including those with blood types label. I would agree that so many highly-specialized variants would be far beyond Lucide's scope as they are too niche into healthcare.

At least it somewhat supports the 2 cents argument that the tubes may not be as important to emphasize as the bag.

Also, not to criticize an awesome, valuable, and highly-needed initiative that is HealthIcons, but rather what to look out for if using for inspiration:

In general they have a lot of visual inconsistency between the icons. Some of them are highly detailed so have large sizes and look poor at various scales. Even the "blood" and "IV" icons have discrepancies in detail level such as the "hole" in the top of the bag (which I think is an unnecessary level of detail). Plus, they may not always pick the most ideal visual metaphors for concepts.

Personally I think the first option in your most recent comment feels the most "Lucide" to me in terms of its clean elegance without fine details where they aren't necessary.

I would endorse that one as the IV bag icon :)

I agree with you about the different icons for levels: while I'm sure they could be helpful for some users it does feel very specific and niche. I am with you that Lucide is a very general-purpose all-purpose set that is very thoughtfully curated. I guess they could potentially apply to games and possibly to other types of interfaces such as showing fluid levels in vehicles or machinery.
