History item deletion on simple Del/Backspace key

The most intuitive one shot shortcut for deletion - Del/Backspace. As I know, there are some tricks like two steps way. But the most intuitive way should be simple, single key like Del/Backspace. Also, it should be configurable. ONe shot is important for users who frequently housekeep their history.
